The curriculum combines theoretical and historical study with practical areas. You will explore key developments in Anglo-American popular music history, analyze musical characteristics of genres, and delve into the social and cultural movements influencing music. Modules also cover the music industry, its structure, history, and contemporary challenges. While not compulsory, practical modules in performance (both classical and popular styles), song-writing, composition, and creative music technology are available. Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops, and individual instrumental/vocal lessons. The program aims to develop critical thinking, analytical skills, creativity, and practical music skills, preparing you for a diverse range of careers in the music and creative industries. The School has a student-run record label, "Merciful Sound," offering practical experience, and opportunities for a "Year in Industry" are available (though not a Year Abroad for this specific program).
