Faculty: College of Health, Science and Society, School of Social Sciences. This British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited three-year full-time Bachelor of Science (Hons) program provides a comprehensive understanding of human thought, action, and behaviour. The curriculum is built around the core BPS curriculum, covering essential areas including: biological psychology, social psychology, developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, individual differences, conceptual and historical issues in psychology, research methods, and statistical analysis. Students learn from internationally-recognised researchers and practitioners. The course emphasizes applying academic knowledge to real-world situations and developing strong practical skills. It offers hands-on experience with psychological measures and equipment in dedicated facilities, including: a specialized undergraduate lab with Biopac amplifiers for psychophysiological teaching and research, Electroencephalography (EEG) labs, a Pain lab, a Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) lab, psychology project rooms, interview rooms, eye-tracking labs, and an advanced driving simulator. Students undertake work-based learning, have opportunities to go on a placement, and participate in research projects. In the final year, students complete an independent research project in an area of their interest. There is an option to pursue a four-year 'sandwich' course which includes a year-long work placement or study year abroad between the second and final year. This degree enables graduates (with a minimum 2:2 honours and successful completion of the Psychology Project module) to obtain the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the BPS, a necessary initial step for becoming a practising psychologist.
This BPS-accredited degree develops highly valuable transferable skills such as critical thinking, analytical skills, data interpretation, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills. Graduates are well-prepared for diverse careers or for further postgraduate study. While direct roles as a 'psychologist' generally require further postgraduate qualifications (e.g., MSc, Professional Doctorates in Clinical, Educational, Occupational, Forensic Psychology), this BSc provides an excellent foundation. Career options include: Research Assistant, Data Analyst, Human Resources, Marketing, Advertising, Social Research, Civil Service, roles in healthcare (e.g., mental health support worker), education, law enforcement, finance, IT, and the creative industries. UWE Bristol's emphasis on work experience, including a potential placement year, and its GradLink careers website dedicated to international students, enhance graduate employability. Around 85% of graduates from psychology (non-specific) at UWE Bristol were in employment or further study 15 months after the course.
UWE Bristol is located in and around the exciting city of Bristol, offering a dynamic environment for student life and access to various industries. The university offers over 1 million online resources available to students, providing extensive academic support and flexibility. UWE Bristol hosts GradLink, a dedicated careers website for international students, which offers tailored support for employment post-graduation. The BSc (Hons) Psychology program is BPS accredited, ensuring a high-quality education recognized professionally. Students benefit from teaching built on research by internationally-recognised researchers and practitioners, coupled with a strong practical focus. The university provides modern, well-equipped facilities including specialist psychology laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment for hands-on learning and research.
