This 1-year (full-time) MSc Public Health is an interdisciplinary and professionally-oriented program designed to equip students with the intellectual and investigative skills needed to promote and improve health, protect populations, prevent disease, reduce inequalities, and address the root causes of ill-health in global and local contexts. The curriculum draws upon social, human, and life sciences to develop professional competencies for employment in the field. Core modules cover a wide range of essential public health areas including epidemiology, health protection, health promotion, public health policy, and qualitative and quantitative research methods. The program aims to produce leaders, critical thinkers, problem solvers, and analysts who can contribute to the evolving world of global public health. A key component is the Dissertation, a summative research project based on primary or secondary research (45 credits). The course has strong, established relationships with public health providers across South West England, including Health Education England and the UK Health Security Agency, who contribute to teaching and may provide sponsorship and placement opportunities.
Graduates are prepared for employment in public health at all levels, spanning health protection, disease surveillance, epidemiology, health promotion, community development, and public health leadership.
