Department: Department of Education. This Master of Arts in Social Justice and Education is designed for current and future teachers, lecturers, trainers, researchers, educational administrators, and policymakers with an interest in diversity, inclusion, equality, and a fair society. The program will equip you to investigate the pedagogical and professional issues that relate to social justice, evaluate, and debate the fairness of educational practices. You will work closely with academics in the Department of Education's Centre for Research on Education and Social Justice (CRESJ), exploring the nature of social justice and the role of education in its achievement. The curriculum covers fundamental philosophical perspectives on education and social justice, critically reflecting on dominant conceptions of education and human capital. Students will analyze social justice as an essential perspective expressed through education and explore education as a mechanism to enhance social justice (e.g., through policy). The program addresses current issues in higher education, intercultural communication, race, gender, sexuality, power, and citizenship education, empowering students to act thoughtfully and decisively regarding questions of inclusion, equality, and diversity. The program totals 180 credits, including core modules, optional modules, and a dissertation.
