This joint honors program provides a comprehensive grounding in both German language, culture, and society, and the study of linguistics. Students will develop advanced German language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening), study German literature, history, film, and thought, and explore contemporary issues in Germany and the German-speaking world. They will also develop a strong understanding of linguistic theory and practice, exploring areas such as phonetics, phonology, syntax, semantics, and sociolinguistics. The program emphasizes the development of critical thinking, analytical skills, intercultural competence, and prepares students for a variety of careers in various sectors. A year abroad in a German-speaking country is integrated into the program.
