Academic College: College of Health Solutions. This 4-year Bachelor of Science (BS) in Public Health program is designed to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of public health principles and practices, preparing them to address complex health challenges at local, national, and global levels. The College of Health Solutions is unique in its interdisciplinary approach, bringing together researchers, faculty, students, and community partners to translate scientific research into practical solutions for health. The curriculum covers foundational public health domains and competencies, including epidemiology (how diseases spread, their causes, and control), health administration (delivery of health services), and health education and health promotion (creating and delivering programs for healthier behaviors). The program also emphasizes community design and disease prevention. Students gain knowledge and skills relevant to addressing the social determinants of health and promoting health equity. The program can be combined with certificates like "Health Education Specialist" or "Health Care Policy and Delivery." Extensive work experience and experiential learning opportunities are integrated into the curriculum, including internships and undergraduate research with faculty, focusing on translational science.
Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in various public health sectors and for further graduate studies. The program qualifies graduates for roles in public health education, sanitation and environmental control, public health administration, and health promotion. Common job titles include: Community Health Worker, Public Health Educator, Environmental Specialist, Occupational Health and Safety Specialist, Community Outreach Coordinator, Prevention Specialist, and Wellness Coordinator. Graduates are also eligible to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam through the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC), a globally recognized credential.
