School/department: Department of Mechanical, Materials and Manufacturing Engineering. This four-year integrated Master of Engineering with Honours (MEng Hons) program builds upon the BEng, offering an additional year to further develop advanced skills through more extensive design projects and a deeper exploration of materials, manufacturing processes, and human factors. It's designed to create future leaders in industry by combining creativity with robust engineering principles, providing a strong technical and real-world view of product design. The curriculum includes advanced modules in digital sketching, high-end CAD modelling, 3D printing, rapid prototyping, virtual reality equipment, advanced materials science, ergonomics, manufacturing processes, and strategic marketing. A significant part of the program involves comprehensive project work, including a 40-credit Group Design and Make module in Year 3 and a substantial individual research project in Year 4. These projects allow students to tackle complex, real-world design and manufacturing challenges across various sectors (e.g., medical, automotive, consumer electronics), focusing on commercially viable solutions and design for mass manufacture. The course is delivered by academic staff with industrial experience and in conjunction with practicing Product Designers. An optional "Year in Industry" (making it a 5-year degree) or "Integrated Study Abroad Year" is available, providing invaluable professional experience and international exposure. This MEng course is fully accredited by the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED) and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), demonstrating full academic fulfillment for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
