This two-year, full-time Master of Science (MSc) program is a pre-registration course designed for graduates with a relevant first degree (e.g., in a related science or health field) who want to qualify as physiotherapists. It is not an advanced practice MSc for existing physiotherapists. The curriculum builds on previous knowledge and experience, covering core areas of physiotherapy practice (musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiorespiratory) with a strong emphasis on clinical reasoning, critical thinking, and advanced practice skills. Approximately 1,000 hours of clinical placements are integrated throughout the program, providing hands-on experience in various settings (NHS hospitals, community clinics, private practice). Students utilize purpose-built rehabilitation and assessment facilities, including a therapy clinic and movement analysis laboratory. The program is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and endorsed by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), making graduates eligible to apply for registration with the HCPC and for full membership of the CSP, which is necessary to practice in the UK.
Career options for graduates of this professionally accredited program are excellent, with physiotherapists in high demand. Graduates are eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), enabling them to practice in the UK. Potential roles mirror those for BSc Physiotherapy graduates, including working in hospitals (NHS or private), community healthcare, private clinics, sports teams, rehabilitation centers, and research. However, the Master's level qualification may provide an advantage in terms of career progression and specialization. The University of Liverpool's status as a Russell Group university and one of the original red brick universities, coupled with its research-intensive learning and excellent graduate prospects, further enhances career opportunities both in the UK and internationally.
